Augustus Named SEC Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Seimone Augustus, a guard on the 17th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team, was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Augustus, a 6-1 swing player, helped the Lady Tigers (12-2, 0-0 SEC) defeat Tulane in New Orleans and No. 25 Arizona at home during the week. The Baton Rouge native collected 18 points and six rebounds in the 65-42 victory over Tulane and added 22 points and eight rebounds in the 76-66 win over Arizona.

For week, Augustus averaged 20.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in the two games and shot 16 of 28 from the floor and 7-8 from the free throw line.

She is the second LSU player to earn the SEC Player of the Week honor this season as Temeka Johnson received the award two weeks ago. This is the second time in the sophomore’s career that Augustus has been named player of the week.

Augustus and LSU begin conference play on Sunday when they host No. 22 Auburn at 2 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The game is Pack the PMAC and is going to be carried live on SEC-TV (Fox Sports Net, cable channel 38 in Baton Rouge).
