No. 17 Lady Tigers to Entertain No. 25 Arizona Sunday

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 17th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team hosts No. 25 Arizona in the final non-conference game of the season at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at Noon CST.

Fans in attendance at the game will have a chance to win tickets to the Nokia Sugar Bowl. Four pairs of tickets, provided by the Lady Tigers coaching staff, will be given to lucky fans during the game and transportation to and from the Superdome will be provided.

Both teams enter the game riding 10-game winning streaks and both carry an 11-2 record. LSU is coming off a victory over Tulane on Tuesday, while Arizona, who is 3-0 in the Pac-10, is coming off a win against Arizona State on Friday night.

Sophomore Seimone Augustus leads the Lady Tigers into the game. She is averaging 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest, while seniors Temeka Johnson and Doneeka Hodges are close behind. Johnson is averaging 13.8 points and 7.2 assists and Hodges is scoring 14.4 points and grabbing 4.2 rebounds per game.

Center Shawntinice Polk leads the Wildcats. The sophomore is posting 17.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, while junior Dee-Dee Wheeler is scoring 15.8 points and dishing out 5.4 assists per outing.

This will be the third meeting between the two schools with the series tied at one win each. Last year LSU open the season with an overtime 78-71 victory at Arizona in the team’s last meeting. This will be the first time for the Wildcats to visit Baton Rouge.

Following the game LSU will take a week off before hosting Auburn on Sunday in the Southeastern Conference opener at 2 p.m. CST in the Maravich Center.
