Sugar Bowl Announces Security Changes, Gates to Open at 3 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS — Officials at the Nokia Sugar Bowl have released updated information regarding entry into the Sugar Bowl, prohibited items, increased security, and general suggestions for all fans to enjoy the game better.

The Superdome doors will open at 4 p.m. CST Sunday for the Nokia Sugar Bowl Football Classic, one hour earlier than previously announced ands three hours before kickoff, scheduled at 7:00 p.m. CST.

Access through the perimeter fences constructed around the Superdome for fans with game tickets will begin at 3 p.m.

Superdome and Nokia Sugar Bowl officials are encouraging fans to arrive early and to enjoy the food, entertainment and interactive games at the Nokia Fan Jan and Campus Tour which will take place on top of the Superdome’s East garages and exterior Plaza Level.

The change in opening the doors was the result of additional security levels, which include fencing around the Superdome and entry points, which will encompass metal detectors and bag checks. Fans are advised of the following:

Entering the Superdome

  • You must have a ticket to enter the fenced perimeter around the Superdome. 
  • All patrons are subject to searches. 
  • Coolers, bags, backpacks, large purses and video cameras are banned. 
  • Hand-held still cameras are permitted-no tripods or large lenses. 
  • No patrons are permitted to carry food or beverages into the Superdome. 
  • Small handbags, such as small ladies’ purses and diaper bags will be subject to visual searches at the gates. 
  • Purses larger than 12 inches x 12 inches will not be permitted. 
  • Prohibited items will not be stored or disposed at the gate; they must be returned to your vehicle or hotel. 
  • THE BEST ADVICE IS TO COME EARLY AND COME EMPTY-HANDED. 

Ticket Advisory

  • A bar coding system has been implemented for all Superdome events, including the Nokia Sugar Bowl Classic. 
  • The bar coding system provides the best security available to prevent illegally printed or copied tickets. 
  • All tickets are specially printed commemorative tickets; there are no Ticketmaster or “computer” tickets for this event. 
  • Fans with illegal tickets will not be admitted to the game. 
  • The game is sold out. 
  • Buying or selling tickets at any price within 750 feet of Superdome property is illegal; offenders are subject to arrest and prosecution. 
  • Scalping tickets is illegal in the State of Louisiana. 
  • The best advice is buyer beware; purchase tickets only from official ticket outlets or participating teams.
