BIRMINGHAM — Temeka Johnson, point guard for the 17th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers basketball team was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 21, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Johnson, a native of New Orleans, La., averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists in LSU’s four games during the week, including averaging 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 10.0 assists in the two victories in the www.WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.com Classic against Kent State and Richmond to be named tournament MVP.
The 5-3 senior won the award for the first time in her career and is the first LSU player to receiver the honor since Aiysha Smith was honored on Feb. 17 last season.
