Lady Tigers Look to Continue Winning Ways Against Temple

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 16th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team takes its seven-game winning streak to the court on Monday when the Temple Owls invade the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 7 p.m. CST in the final game before the holiday break that completes the seven-game home stand for LSU.

LSU (8-2) is coming off a 97-47 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon, while Temple (3-3) fell at home to Villanova on Friday night.

Sophomore Seimone Augustus and senior Temeka Johnson lead LSU into the game. Augustus is averaging 15.7 points and 5.5 rebounds, while Johnson is scoring 13.0 points, dishing out 7.1 assists and grabbing 5.9 rebounds per game.

The duo will be honored prior to the game with a brief ceremony for their contribution to USA Basketball this past summer. Both played for Team USA the won the Gold Medal in the World Championship for Young Women. Augustus, a Baton Rouge native, was named the USA Female Athlete of the Year on Dec. 15 and will be awarded the trophy during the ceremony along with a plaque from USA Basketball for participating on the Gold Medal team. Johnson, a New Orleans native, will also receive a plaque from USA Basketball.

The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a free 8×10 poster of Augustus and Johnson in their USA Basketball uniforms with their medals. The two will be available to sign the posters following the game.

Temple, which is also playing its final game before the holiday break, is led by sophomore center Candice Dupree. She is averaging 19.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

This is the first meeting between the two schools.

LSU will not play against until Dec. 27 in Atlanta against Florida State when the Lady Tigers battle the Lady ‘Noles in the Russell Athletics Shootout in Philips Arena at 11:30 a.m. CST.
