BATON ROUGE — It’s been a little less than two weeks since LSU won the Southeastern Conference championship and earned the right to play Oklahoma for the national title, but the Tigers will return to the practice field on Thursday as they start their preparations for the Sooners.

LSU and Oklahoma will meet for the national championship on Jan. 4 in New Orleans at the Nokia Sugar Bowl. LSU, ranked No. 2 in the nation, enters the game with a 12-1 overall mark. The Tigers have won seven straight. Oklahoma, ranked No. 1 for all but one week during the season, is coming off a 35-7 loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 title game. The Sooners are ranked No. 3 nationally.

LSU coach Nick Saban will spend a portion of his Thursday meeting with the ABC Sports broadcast crew of Brent Musburger, Jack Arute and Gary Danielson, as they will be in Baton Rouge to preview the national championship game.

Saban will also meet with over 100 members of the media, including writers from the Los Angeles Times and USA Today, at a press conference to preview the Sugar Bowl.

The Tigers will practice at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility followed by two workouts on Friday. The team will practice once each on Saturday through Tuesday. The Tigers will break for Christmas following Tuesday’s workout.

LSU is scheduled to report to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl at noon on Dec. 28.
