BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 16th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team hosts Kent State in the opening round of the annual www.WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.com Classic on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CST in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Richmond will play Arkansas State at 5 p.m. to open the tournament at 5 p.m. CST.
The Lady Tigers (5-2) are riding a four-game winning streak, including a 74-38 victory over Sam Houston State on Monday night. Sophomore guard Seimone Augustus leads LSU into the game with 16.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while senior guard Temeka Johnson is averaging 11.7 points and 6.1 assists and senior guard Doneeka Hodges is scoring 11.9 points per contest.
Kent State (3-2) enters the game having dropped two of three games, including a 66-53 loss at Youngstown State on Saturday night. The Golden Flashes are led by junior center Andrea Csaszar with 15.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
This will be the second meeting between the two teams. LSU won the only other meeting, a 78-75 victory on Dec. 20, 1995 in Baton Rouge.
Richmond (5-1) and Arkansas State (7-0) battle in the first game and the winners of the two first round games will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the championship game, while the consolation game will be at 5 p.m. CST.
LSU owns a 14-0 record in the seven year history of the www.WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.com Classic history, including winning the tournament last season with victories over Ohio and Louisville.
