BATON ROUGE — In an attempt to add variety to their off-season workout routine, the LSU softball team held a triathlon through campus on a windy Nov. 19 day that included running, biking and swimming.
The Tigers ran for two miles and biked for two miles through the west part of campus, including Nicholson Drive, Skip Bertman Drive and along the Mississippi River levee down River Road. The team completed the event with a half-mile swim in the Special Olympics Pool.
As a team, the Tigers completed the course in an average of 30 minutes. Senior team captain Sara Fitzgerald won the event with a time of 27 minutes 52 seconds.
LSU will begin the 2004 season with the Tiger Classic from Feb. 6-8 at Tiger Park. The Tigers will begin play against Centenary at 2 p.m. on Feb. 6. LSU will also take on Oklahoma, Illinois and Southeastern Louisiana in the three-day tournament.
