Sugar Bowl Ticket Allocation Plans Announced

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Athletics Department announced its plans Monday for the allocation of its allotment of 16,000 tickets for the 2004 Nokia Sugar Bowl, in which LSU will play Oklahoma for the college football national championship on January 4.

LSU season ticket holders had until Monday, November 24, to apply for tickets to any of LSU’s possible bowl destinations. Over 30,000 tickets were ordered for the Nokia Sugar Bowl by the deadline.

Because the number of ticket requests exceeds the amount of tickets allotted to LSU for the bowl game, the priority system will be put into place, as was outlined in LSU’s Fan Guide distributed prior to the season, and detailed again in the Post-season Order Form mailed to season ticket holders in November.

Under this priority system, approximately 4,200 tickets will be allocated first for LSU players, support staff, coaches, athletic staff, university personnel and administrative purposes. Also, 2,000 will be allocated for LSU students.

Next, the Tiger Athletic Foundation will receive an allocation of approximately 5,500 tickets to distribute to their membership based on the TAF Priority Point System. For a TAF member to receive tickets, he or she must be a football season ticket holder.

Approximately 4,300 tickets will be allocated for distribution to all other season ticket holders who applied for tickets but do not receive tickets in the previously mentioned categories.

Under this system, TAF season ticket holders with a TAF priority ranking from 1-100 will receive six tickets each, and TAF season ticket holders with a TAF ranking from 101-500 will receive four tickets each. Based on the number of tickets allocated to the TAF under this system, TAF season ticket holders with a TAF ranking from 501-2386 will receive two tickets each.

All remaining season ticket holders who applied for tickets will be placed into a computer-generated lottery draw for two tickets each. That draw will be made on Thursday, December 11, and ticket holders will be notified by e-mail on Friday, December 12, of the results of that draw.

Complete distribution details will be available later this week after discussions with the Superdome and the Nokia Sugar Bowl officials.
