No. 3 LSU Continues to Prepare for No. 5 Georgia

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s third-ranked football team continued its preparations for Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Championship Game against fifth- ranked Georgia with another workout indoors at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

The Tigers, 11-1 overall and champions of the SEC Western Division, face 10-2 Georgia at 7 p.m. CST on Saturday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The game will be televised to a national audience by CBS.

LSU has practiced indoors all week as they continue to get acclimated to playing a game indoors for the first time this year. The Tigers are 2-0 in the Georgia Dome under Nick Saban, which includes a 31-20 win over Tennessee in the 2001 SEC Championship Game and a 28-14 victory over Georgia Tech in the 2000 Peach Bowl.

“The focus and the concentration and the effort in practice has been good this week and hopefully we will be able to polish it up tomorrow and be able to do what we need to do to go over there and play a good football game,” LSU coach Nick Saban said after Wednesday’s workout. “I think that the most important thing is that the players are able to concentrate on what is in front of them and what they have to look forward to and not get caught up in all the stuff going on around this game relative to what might happen if this happens or whatever.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for every player on our team and guys live for a long time and you do not get a lot of competitive opportunities like this in your life and it should be something you enjoy and prepare to do your best in. That is what we would like for our team to do.”

The Tigers will be close to full strength on Saturday as free safety LaRon Landry will return to action after missing the second half of the Arkansas game with a concussion. Landry, a true freshman, leads the Tigers with 7 1 tackles.

The only Tiger expected to miss Saturday’s contest is that of tight end Demetri Robinson, who re-aggravated a groin injury last week against Arkansas. Robinson had missed four straight games with the injury before seeing limited action against the Razorbacks.

The Tigers will practice again on Thursday followed by a walk-through in the Georgia Dome on Friday afternoon. The Tigers depart for Atlanta at 11 a.m. on Friday.
