HAMMOND, La. — The LSU women’s soccer team landed five players on the 2003 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Women’s Soccer Team, including three on the first team, and Stacy Bishop earned Freshman of the Year honors, the LSWA announced on Monday.
Southeastern Louisiana placed four players on the first team, including senior forward Kendra Oney, who was named the Player of the Year. SLU’s Blake Hornbuckle took Coach of the Year honors after leading the Lady Lions to a school-record 15 wins and went 9-0-3 in Southland Conference play.
Southern, McNeese State, Centenary, and Tulane each had one player named to the first team. Two Tigers, Rachel Cohen and Kate Ripple, were named Honorable Mention selections. Centenary’s Sam Savage was named Newcomer of the Year.
Bishop, Artie Brown, and Stephanie Keating all represented LSU on the first team. Brown made the All-Louisiana squad for the third-straight season and is on the first team for the second time in her career. The native of Baton Rouge scored a team-leading 13 goals this season and finished the season tied for second in the conference in goals scored and fourth in points.
Bishop, a native of Land O’Lakes, Fla., was second on the squad with 12 goals scored this season and tied Brown for the team lead in points with 29. Bishop ranked in the top five in both goals and points this season. Keating, a member of the first team for the second-straight season, led the Tigers with nine assists to go with seven goals. Cohen was named to the All-Louisiana squad for the third time in her career. Ripple, a sophomore, earned All-Louisiana honors in her first season in the SEC after transferring from Texas A&M.
