Mauck Selected SEC Offensive Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU quarterback Matt Mauck has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Tigers’ 55-24 win over Arkansas on Friday, the league office announced on Sunday.

Mauck, a junior from Jasper, Ind., completed 12 of 19 passes for 186 yards and a school-record tying four touchdowns in the Tiger victory. Mauck also rushed for 31 yards on six carries as the Tigers accounted for 250 rushing yards against Arkansas.

Mauck threw three TD passes in the second quarter alone as LSU built a 34-17 halftime lead. Mauck is the only quarterback in LSU history to throw three TD passes in a single quarter and he’s done it three times, including twice this season.

For the season, Mauck has tossed a school-record 27 TD passes, which ties Eli Manning of Ole Miss for the SEC lead. The 27 TD passes also ranks as the 10th best total in SEC history. Mauck, who stands at 16-2 as LSU’s starting quarterback, has tossed 36 TDs during his career with the Tigers, the third highest total in school history.

Mauck joins Chad Lavalais and Corey Webster as LSU’s conference player of the week award winners this year. Lavalais did it twice, winning the award following wins over Auburn and Ole Miss, while Webster received the honor after LSU’s win over Georgia.
