It’s Official! Tigers to Take on Georgia for the SEC Championship

BATON ROUGE — LSU, champions of the Southeastern Conference Western Division, will face Georgia in the SEC Championship Game on Dec.6, the league office announced on Sunday.

Kickoff for Saturday’s game, which is set for the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, is slated for 7 p.m. CST on CBS Sports.

LSU, ranked No. 3 in the nation, stands at 11-1 overall and finished with a 7-1 league mark. Georgia, ranked No. 5 in the country, enters the contest with a 10-2 overall mark.

The SEC Championship game will be rematch of LSU’s 17-10 win over the Bulldogs earlier this season in Baton Rouge. In that game, LSU quarterback Matt Mauck connected with Skyler Green for a 34-yard TD pass with just over a minute left in the contest to give the Tigers the victory.

Both teams reached the championship game by winning their respective tie-breakers against divisional opponents.

Georgia, Florida and Tennessee were involved in a three-team tie in the Eastern Division. The Bulldogs, by virtue of their ranking in the latest Bowl Championship Series standings, earned the right to represent the division in the SEC Championship Game.

LSU and Ole Miss were involved in a two-team tie in the Western Division. The Tigers, with their 17-14 win over the Rebels on Nov. 22, earned the right to represent the division in the SEC Championship Game.
