HOUSTON — LSU’s 18th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team looks to put an end to its two-game losing streak when they travel to Rice on Saturday at 7 p.m. CST in Autry Court.
The Lady Tigers (1-2) won the opening game of the season against Villanova, but have dropped games to Oregon and Penn State on the road. LSU will be trying to avoid its first three-game losing streak since the tail end of the 2000-01 season.
This is the fourth game of a four-game road swing for the Lady Tigers to open the season. LSU opens the home portion of the schedule on Tuesday when they host No. 15 Rutgers.
Sophomore Seimone Augustus leads LSU into the game. The guard from Baton Rouge is averaging 17.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and has scored in double figures in each of the first three games. Senior point guard Temeka Johnson is averaging 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
Rice (0-2) enters the game having dropped road games at Kent State and Arkansas. Sophomore guard Amber Cunningham leads the Lady Owls with 8.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
This will be the fourth meeting between LSU and Rice. The Lady Tigers lead the series 2-1, including a 72-47 victory on Dec. 20, 2001 in Baton Rouge. Rice won the only meeting in Houston, a 64-57 victory in 1998.
Following Saturday’s game, LSU opens its home schedule on Tuesday against Rutgers at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
