ATLANTA, Ga. — Seimone Augustus and Temeka Johnson, guards for LSU’s 10th-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team, were named preseason Naismith National Player of the Year Candidates, it was announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club today.
Augustus, a 6-1 sophomore guard from Baton Rouge, led LSU with 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season. She is also a preseason candidate for the Wade Trophy and the Women’s Wooden Award.
Johnson, a 5-6 senior point guard from New Orleans, helped the Lady Tigers last season with 10.0 points per game and a team-high 5.8 assists per contest. She is also a preseason candidate for the Wade Trophy.
The Naismith Award program, present to the nation’s top male and female collegiate basketball player, enters its 36th years. The 30 female and 30 male candidates were selected by a vote of the Board of Selectors comprised of leading basketball coaches, journalists, and basketball analysts.
