Bertman, Ripken to Team Up for Baton Rouge Clinic

BALTIMORE — Baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr. and college baseball coaching icon Skip Bertman will headline a baseball coaches’ clinic to be held in Baton Rouge at the Sheraton Atrium Sunday, November 23. The event, which will run from approximately 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., will feature instruction in all aspects of the game for coaches of all age groups.

“It is exciting for us to bring our instructional program for coaches to a baseball hotbed such as Louisiana,” Ripken said. “Being able to include someone with the reputation and background of Skip Bertman really makes the event special. Our goal is to impact as many youth baseball players as possible with our teachings, and the best way to do that is to educate the coaches.”

Joining Ripken and Bertman for this event will be Ripken Baseball Core Staff members Bill Ripken, John Habyan and Mark Parent. Bill Ripken, a 12-year major league veteran, will lead the fielding instruction. Habyan, an 11-year big league vet, will conduct the pitching session, and Parent, who accumulated 13 years of major league experience, will lead the catching portion of the program. Cal Ripken will conduct the hitting instruction with assistance from his brother and Parent. The Ripken Baseball instructional staff possesses a combined 57 years of major league playing experience.

The clinic will include an introduction to The Ripken Way and philosophies and a talk by Bertman in addition to the skill and drill segments. Cal and Bill Ripken will be on hand throughout the today to add their insight and answer specific questions. There also will be a segment dealing with the proper way to conduct practices for players of all ages.

The cost of the event is $150. Attendees receive a Ripken Baseball instructional CD-ROM valued at $39.95 as well as a detailed outline of all instruction. The Sheraton Atrium is located at 102 France Street in Baton Rouge.
