COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The LSU men’s tennis team will cap its successful 2003 fall season this weekend in the Texas A&M Fall Invitational. The Tigers will face Arizona, Texas Christian and Texas A&M in three “hidden” dual matches.
“This tournament is the most similar of all our fall matches to what we will see in the spring,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “It doesn’t count as team event, but it will be good to see how people will compete.
“Texas A&M and TCU were both top 15 teams this year, and Arizona will be strong,” Brown said. “Our guys will use this as a chance to show what they can do before the spring.”
Ken Skupski will lead the Tigers into the Texas A&M Tennis Center with a winning singles record and four wins over ranked opponents this fall in his first season as a Tiger.
Skupski and teammate Bryan Fisher will try to extend the success they had in their first tournament as a doubles team. Fisher and Skupski lost in the semi-finals of the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament to the fifth-ranked team in the nation.
LSU’s Cory Ross and Danny Bryan have captured two consecutive doubles titles and will test their unbeaten record this weekend.
Doubles play begins Friday at 9:30 a.m. and singles follow at 11 a.m.
