LSU’s Brown Selected to SEC Soccer Good Works Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Artie Brown, a junior member of the LSU soccer team, was named to the 2003 Southeastern Conference Soccer Good Works Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Brown, a native of Baton Rouge, has been involved in numerous volunteer projects throughout the community, including serving as a volunteer soccer coach for youth soccer programs, and doing other volunteer work at local soccer clinics. Brown also reads to local elementary school children and visits nursing homes. She has also been involved in various DARE projects in conjunction with elementary schools and has donated food and clothes to the less fortunate in the community. Brown has volunteered at local hospitals and P.T. clinics.

Brown was the recipient of the CHAMPS Community Service Award in 2001-02 for her extensive work with LSU’s CHAMPS Life Skills Program. She was also a member of the 2002 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Brown is a kinesiology major and maintains a 3.671 grade point average. She led the Tigers to a 10-9-1 record this season, the program’s second-straight winning campaign, and scored a team-leading 13 goals. She finished the season second on the squad in points with 26. Brown owns 26 goals in her career, which is good for third-place all-time in school history, and is only one goal away from second place.
