BATON ROUGE — LSU soccer player Chelsea Agar was named the CHAMPS Student-Athlete of the month for September, it was announced by the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes on Thursday.
Agar, a native of Courtenay, British Columbia, is the second LSU student-athlete to receive the honor this year. Agar was given the honor for her extensive work with the Shaquille O’Neal CHAMPS Life Skills Program and her hard work in the classroom. Agar maintains a 4.0 GPA in biochemistry and was a member of the 2002 SEC Academic Honor Roll.
“This is a great honor for Chelsea Agar and for our team,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “We pride our program in being very involved in the community and doing well in the classroom, so this is an outstanding accomplishment and is very well-deserved.”
The soccer team continued its string of academic awards with Agar’s recent honor. The Tigers were given the CHAMPS Community Service Award in May, earning the honor for the second-straight year. Senior Laura Klatter won the 2002-03 Individual CHAMPS Community Service Award and junior Artie Brown won the award in 2001-02. The Tigers were also awarded the NSCAA Bronze Team Ethics Award in 2002.
