BATON ROUGE, La. — After three consecutive top-five team finishes, the LSU men’s cross country team finds itself tied for 14th in the latest NCAA South Central Regional cross country poll released Wednesday. The Lady Tigers sit just outside the regional rankings receiving votes in this week’s poll.
The rankings, voted on by a panel of coaches throughout the South Central region, have Arkansas on top in both the men’s and women’s polls, each accumulating 150 points. Texas A&M (137), Texas (129), Baylor (124) and Stephen F. Austin (99) round out the men’s top–five, while Baylor (136), Texas A&M (134), Texas (115) and TCU (109) comprised the remainder of the women’s top five.
The Tigers are tied with TCU for 14th in the standings (12), while the Lady Tigers are receiving votes with one point.
The Tigers got off to an impressive start this season finishing second at the season-opening Tulane Invitational before recording back-to-back fifth-place finishes at the Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. and the Bulldog Stampede in Athens, Ga.
The Lady Tigers began the season with a third-place finish at the Tulane Invitational and proceeded to post two top-10 finishes at the Lobo Invitational and the Bulldog Stampede.
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers return to action this weekend when LSU plays host to its only home meet of the season, the LSU Invitational, on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Highland Road Park. Action begins at 8 a.m. with the women’s 6K race and continues at 9 a.m. with the men’s 8K run.
