ALEXANDRIA, La. — Former LSU All-American golfer John Humphries held a press conference on Wednesday at the Alexandria Golf and Country Club to announce his signing with Axcess Sports and Entertainment to officially begin his professional career.

“We are excited that John chose Axcess Sports for representation,” said Michael Huyghue, president and CEO of Axcess Sports and Entertainment. “He had an outstanding career at LSU, and his natural ability combined with his strong work ethic will undoubtedly lead to continued success as a professional.”

Humphries, a native of Woodworth, La., will compete in Q-School this fall to attempt to gain his PGA Tour card at a site to be determined. Humphries graduated from LSU with a degree in marketing earlier this year.

“I need to thank a few people, first of all the Alexandria Golf and Country Club, and secondly the Central Louisiana Junior Golf Association because if not for them I do not know how much I would be playing golf today,” said Humphries. “I would also like to thank Alexandria senior High School, my head coach at LSU, Greg Jones, as well as all of my friends and family, especially my grandparents and parents.”

“Greg may have said that he did not have a lot to do with me being here today but I would have to beg to differ,” said Humphries. “When I came to LSU I had a good swing and a lot of talent but I was far behind the best players in the country. Greg helped teach me how to play the game and how to manage my game and how to practice. He really helped me become a more mature player.”

Humphries capped one of the most successful careers by an LSU golfer by winning the 2003 Louisiana State Amateur Championship in June at Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport in a playoff. Humphries was also named to the All-SEC first team as a senior, earning All-SEC honors for the second time in his career. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American this past season and was also the Player of the Year on the LSWA All-Louisiana Golf Team.

“I am very happy for John and also very proud of him too,” said Jones. “I am also happy for Axcess Sports because I know what type of player and person they are getting because I had him for four years as both a player and a good friend. I want to wish John the best of luck and I know he will succeed in the future.”
