ATHENS, Ga. — Facing some of the toughest competition in the SEC, the LSU men’s and women’s cross country team turned in solid performances Saturday at the Bulldog Stampede, as the Tigers finished fifth and the Lady Tigers placed eighth overall.
Host Georgia won the men’s race scoring 35 points, while Vanderbilt took home the women’s team title scoring 55 points. The Tigers finished with 148 points and the Lady Tigers tallied 184 points.
Pacing the men’s squad was sophomore Andrew Huston. The Baton Rouge native cracked the field’s top-25, finishing 24th with a time of 27:21.10 over the 8K course. He was followed by sophomore Roland LeBlanc and junior Tomario Thomas who finished with times of 27:29.37 and 27:44.38, respectively.
On the women’s side junior Katie Denton led the Lady Tigers for the second straight week, crossing the finish line in 25th place with a time of 19:49.56. Sophomores Michelle Hymel and Sarah Colosimo rounded out the Lady Tigers’ top three turning in times of 20:07.67 and 20:29.84, respectively.
LSU will return to action Saturday, Sept. 27 when it hosts its only home meet of the season, the LSU Invitational, at Highland Road Park.
