HAMMOND, La. — The LSU soccer team, off to its best start in school history, will attempt to continue its dominance of in-state competition when the Tigers face the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
“We played a good game on Friday night against Louisiana-Lafayette and we would like to continue that against Southeastern Louisiana,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “We do not play again for two weeks after this match, so it would be nice to get another win before we head into SEC play.”
The Tigers (6-1-1) defeated UL-Lafayette 4-0 on Friday night, improving to 4-0 all-time against the Cajuns. Junior forward Artie Brown scored two goals on Friday to give her nine on the season, one behind Stacy Bishop for the team lead. Senior Rachel Cohen added a goal and recorded her 20th career assist to move into first place all-time in school history past former teammate Ashley Mitnick.
LSU is 16-0-2 against in-state schools since Fotopoulos’ arrival in 2000 and are a remarkable 32-4-3 versus non-conference competition in that span. The Tigers have outscored the opposition 35-5 through eight games this season.
The Tigers will not be in action again until Oct. 3 when they open up Southeastern Conference play versus Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., and then face Vanderbilt on Oct. 5 in Nashville, Tenn. That game will be televised live on SEC-TV (Cable Ch. 38 in Baton Rouge).
