BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s and women’s cross country teams will get their first taste of SEC competition Saturday when they travel to Athens, Ga., for the Bulldog Stampede.
The meet will feature nine teams on both the men’s and women’s sides and will be highlighted by SEC foes Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
The women will kick start the action at the UGA Golf Course, running a 5K race at 7:15 a.m. (CDT). The men will follow with an 8K race at 7:45 a.m.
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are coming off solid performances at the competitive Lobo Invitational a week ago, where the men’s recorded a fifth-place finish and the women finished seventh overall.
Juniors Jimmy Wiggins and Katie Denton have led the Tigers and Lady Tigers, respectively, to this point in the season. Wiggins owns the SEC’s fourth-best 8K time this season, while Denton leads the conference in the 6K.
Following the Bulldog Stampede, LSU returns home to play host to its only home meet of the season, the LSU Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 27.
