AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Elaine Powell, a former LSU Lady Tigers basketball player, and her Detroit Shock play the two-time defending WNBA Champion Los Angeles Sparks in the third and deciding game of the WNBA Finals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CDT in the Palace at Auburn Hills.
Powell, a guard for Sue Gunter‘s Lady Tigers from 1995 to 1997, averaged 19.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game during her career. She finished her career 11th in school history in scoring, despite playing just season after transferring from a junior college.
The Monroe, La., native started all 33 games this season for the Shock and averaged 9.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. She is averaging 4.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 rebounds per game in the playoffs entering the deciding game three.
Detroit advanced to the Finals by defeating Houston and Connecticut in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
