BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team looks to extend its winning streak against non-conference opponents to 13 games when the Tigers face Loyola (Md.), on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the final game of the Tiger Classic II at the LSU Soccer Complex in Baton Rouge.
“We won the game on Friday which is good, but we looked a little sluggish and had some trouble scoring early,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “We would like to come out and play well against Loyola and win the game.”
The Tigers are off to their best start in history this season at 4-0, having outscored the opposition 24-1. LSU is coming off a 3-0 blanking of Birmingham-Southern on Friday night and will be playing the Greyhounds for the first time in school history. Loyola defeated McNeese State 5-0 on Friday to earn its first win this season.
Freshman forward Stacy Bishop scored two goals on Friday and leads LSU with eight goals scored this season. Senior midfielder Stephanie Keating tallied her fourth assist of the season on Friday and needs just one to tie former teammate Ashley Mitnick for the school record of 19. Teammate Rachel Cohen also has 18 career assists and can do the same with just one more assist.
The Tigers will play Tulane in New Orleans on Sept. 12 before heading to Austin, Texas to face the nationally ranked Texas Longhorns on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
A clinic for coaches and parents will take place on Sunday following the Tigers’ game with Loyola. The first 50 applicants will receive a free LSU clipboard. Participants will also receive coaching tips from Fotopoulos and the rest of the Tigers’ coaching staff.
