BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team will continue a five-game homestand this weekend when the Tigers face Birmingham-Southern and Loyola (Md.), in the Tiger Classic II at the LSU Soccer Complex in Baton Rouge.
The Tigers will play the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then square off with Loyola on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. LSU will be meeting the two teams for the first time in school history.
LSU (3-0) brings an 11-game winning streak against non-conference opponents into Friday’s match and have gone 29-4-1 against non-conference competition under head coach George Fotopoulos. The Tigers have outscored their three opponents 21-1 in their three games this season.
Freshman forward Stacy Bishop leads the team in goals with six, including an LSU single-game record five recorded against Jackson State in a 12-0 win on Aug. 31. Junior forward Artie Brown has scored five goals, and freshman Joleen Phillips has contributed four.
McNeese State, whom LSU defeated 7-0 on Sept. 2, will face Loyola on Friday at 5 p.m. to open the tournament. The Panthers will play McNeese on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Friday night is being called “Club Soccer Appreciation Night” at the LSU Soccer Complex. Tickets will be available for only $1 for club soccer teams and the first 100 fans will receive a free LSU soccer antenna topper.
A kid’s clinic will be held on Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex, The clinic is free for all kids ages 5-17. The clinic will feature training by the LSU staff, a guest coach, and speaker Danielle Fotopoulos, current WUSA star and wife of Tiger head coach George Fotopoulos.
A clinic for coaches and parents will take place on Sunday, Sept. 7 following the Tigers’ game with Loyola (Md.), at 1:30 p.m. The first 50 applicants will receive a free LSU clipboard. Participants will also receive coaching tips from LSU head coach George Fotopoulos.
