BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team will play host to the McNeese State Cowgirls on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex to continue a five-game homestand.
“We want to try and continue to get better each game we play so this is just simply another opportunity to do that,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “We want to play with some consistency and see our players develop with each game. You always want to do well against teams in your state so this is a big game for many reasons.”
The Tigers (2-0) are coming off of two impressive victories over the weekend in the Tiger Classic I, beating Coastal Carolina 2-1 on Friday and Jackson State 12-0 on Sunday.
LSU set three school records in the win over JSU on Sunday, including most goals in a single game (12), goals in a half (10 in second half), and the single-game record for most goals scored by an individual, as freshman forward Stacy Bishop recorded five goals on Sunday. Bishop also had the game-winning assist in Friday’s 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina.
The Tigers are 3-1 all-time against McNeese State and have won 10-straight games against non-conference opponents. LSU has never lost to an in-state school under Fotopoulos.
The match versus McNeese is being designated as “WUSA Professional Soccer Day” and will include WUSA activities and prizes.
The Cowgirls defeated Prairie View A&M, 7-2, in Friday’s season opener in Lake Charles, La. , and are 1-0 on the season.
