Former Lady Tiger Athlete Eve Advances at IAAF World’s

PARIS — Former Lady Tiger Laverne Eve advanced to the finals of the women’s javelin competition Thursday at the IAAF World Championships.

Turning in a season-best effort 206-4, Eve posted the field’s second best qualifying mark of the day. She was bettered only by Russia’s Tatyana Shikolenko, who recorded a throw of 209-0.

Eve, a letterwinner for the Lady Tigers from 1986-88, enjoyed an impressive career during her days at LSU. The two-time All-American won the 1987 NCAA title in the javelin and stills hold the Lady Tiger school record in the event with a mark of 204-9.

The finals of the women’s javelin are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 30.
