BATON ROUGE — The LSU football team battled the elements on Tuesday as early morning rain showers in the Baton Rouge area gave way to heat and humidity in the afternoon as the Tigers worked out for just over two hours here at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

The rain in Baton Rouge let up just in time, as the Tigers were able to stay outside for their only practice of the day on Tuesday. LSU spent most of its practice working out on the University High football field, which is part of the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

Tuesday’s practice marked LSU’s fourth consecutive workout in full pads.

“This was one of the more spirited practices we’ve had,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “I think every time you go out there, you have some goal or objective that you want to accomplish. Last night, we threw the ball a lot and the offense really did a good job throwing the ball effectively, making some big plays. They really looked good.

“Today, the defensive players seemed a little bit better. With this team, we are looking for consistency and for guys who compete and play everyday on the field. What they did yesterday doesn’t affect what they did today. Who they are playing against doesn’t affect how they are playing today, so that we have a chance to be a consistent football team.”

Saban said the Tigers did have an injury on Tuesday as freshman wide receiver Amp Hill was hurt during the early portion of practice. Saban said Hill injured his knee, but that he didn’t know the extent of the injury.

The Tigers will practice twice on Wednesday followed by the team’s first scrimmage of fall camp on Thursday afternoon.

“We are trying to get ready for this scrimmage.” Saban said. “We are trying to bring everybody along to see who has made the progress and shows that they have the maturity to help this team.”
