SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Former LSU All-American Marian Burnett won a silver medal in the 800-meters Wednesday at Juan Pablo Olympic Stadium, site of the 2003 Pan-American Games.

Competing for her native country of Guyana, Burnett posted an impressive time of 2:03.58 to finish behind champion Letitia Vreiescle of Suriname (2:02.92) and runner-up, Andriana Munoz of Cuba (2:02.96), who was later disqualified giving Barnett the silver.

Burnett, the 2002 NCAA Indoor champion in the 800 meters, was an integral part of both the Lady Tigers’ indoor national title runs in 2002 and 2003.

Current Lady Tiger Neisha Bernard-Thomas also participated in the women’s 800-meter run. The two-time All-American just missed advancing to the finals of the event, finishing seventh in the semifinals with a time of 2:04.22.

Also making waves at the Pan-Am Games was former Lady Tiger Debbie Ann Parris. An eight-time All-American and five-time national champion while competing at LSU, Parris finished seventh in the 400-hurdles with a time of 56.73.
