TO: Fans, Friends, and Supporters of LSU Athletics

FROM: Skip Bertman, LSU Director of Athletics

THIS WEEK

Today is the last day of July and that means we’re less than one month from kicking off the 110th year of LSU football. So as we head into the month of August, only five days before our student-athletes report back to campus for the beginning of another athletic season, let me update you on some plans we have for the coming year.

HOT SUMMER TICKET MONTH

My thanks to everyone who purchased tickets during “Hot Summer Ticket Month.” This was the first year of this special ticket campaign, and we’re pleased with the results. Over 2,500 season tickets in football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball were sold during the month of July, and every new ticket buyer received a Value Pack from our corporate sponsors.

July is the customary time for fans to buy new football season tickets, and nearly 2,000 were purchased. But we were especially pleased that we gained over 100 new season ticket holders in the upper level of the Assembly Center in the first-ever summer sale of men’s basketball tickets, and that women’s basketball fans took advantage of great seating opportunities to buy over 400 season tickets to see the Lady Tigers.

SPECIAL 3-PACK OFFER/PIGSKIN PLAYGROUND

If you can’t bring the whole family to all seven games this fall, we’re offering a three-game package at a special rate beginning Saturday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m.

The special Football 3-Pack includes a ticket to the UL-Monroe, Western Illinois and Arkansas games all for only $72. The regular price for a single game ticket is $36, so you’ll get three tickets for the price of two, a $108 value.

It’s a great opportunity to take your family to Tiger Stadium, and we’re adding to the family experience by introducing the Pigskin Playground for those three games. Kids will enjoy slides, spacewalks and obstacle courses, plus interactive sports activities with LSU athletes.

The Pigskin Playground will be located outside the south end of Tiger Stadium, and will be sponsored by the Tiger Athletic Foundation. We hope the new Pigskin Playground will help introduce LSU to a new generation of Tiger football fans, and will become a part of your traditional game day activities on those three Saturdays.

All individual game tickets will go on sale August 9 at 2 p.m. at the LSU Ticket Office. Tickets can be purchased in person, by phone (225-578-2184) or online at www.LSUsports.net.

FAN DAY

Sunday, Aug. 10, will be Fan Day on the LSU campus. The LSU football team will hold an open practice from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. in Tiger Stadium, before signing autographs beginning at 5 p.m. Come on out and pick up your schedule cards and posters, and all the autographs you can get.

FREE PARKING

I’m happy to announce that we are adding a new 45-acre free football parking area at the corner of Nicholson Drive and Gourrier Lane. LSU Athletics will finance the move of four holes on the LSU golf course by the opening game to provide Tiger football fans with a new parking area to accommodate 2,500 automobiles. We’ll also provide 36 picnic tables in that area for your tailgating enjoyment.

FAN GUIDE

Season ticket holders will receive a new and improved Fan Guide with their season tickets in August. Thanks to our Gameday Program sponsors, we’ve added new features to this year’s LSU Fan Guide to include ticket, parking, traffic and tailgating information, a stadium seating diagram and a fold-out parking map. You’ll get information on how games are picked for television, NCAA rules of interest for fans, a history of Tiger Stadium and even the words to all of LSU’s fight songs.

Consider the LSU Fan Guide your “Owner’s Manual” for LSU football games. We hope you’ll refer to it often during the coming season.

KEEPING IT CLEAN

You’ll be hearing a lot in the coming weeks about our efforts to keep your campus clean on game days. You’ll see nearly 4,000 disposal containers on campus for football games this fall, twice as many as last year, including over 1,000 new recycling containers. We’ll be encouraging Tiger fans to recycle, and we’ll be making a concerted effort to eliminate the use of glass on campus for safety reasons. We hope you and your friends will use plastic containers and cans this fall while enjoying your tailgating activities on the LSU campus.

This is an exciting time of the year for everyone associated with LSU Athletics. If you have suggestions how we can make your Saturday Night experience even better, please let us know. Send us your feedback to LSUvision@etigers.net. Although I cannot guarantee a response to every e-mail, please know they will all be read.

Thank you for your continued support of Tiger Athletics.
