CAMPBELL, Calif. — Former LSU outfielder Sean Barker has been named California League Batter of the Week. Barker, a sixth-round selection by the Colorado Rockies in the 2002 draft, has been playing full-time in left field for the Visalia Oaks, the Rockies’ Single-A affiliate.
In eight games last week, Barker, a Bakersfield, Calif., native, was 11-for-24 (.458) at the plate with five doubles, two triples, one homer, eight RBI and one stolen base for a .958 slugging percentage.
On the year, Barker is hitting .269 at Visalia with 14 doubles, three triples, five homers and 27 RBI.
Since the All-Star break, Barker has hit .379 in 20 games to raise his average from .230 to .269. In those 20 games, he has more than equaled his total of runs scored and extra-base hits of his first 50 games and nearly matched his RBI total.
Barker led the 2002 LSU squad to NCAA Super Regional play, batting .382 (102-for-267) with 16 doubles, eight homers and 62 RBI. He completed his two-year LSU career with a .372 batting average, 23 doubles, 11 homers and 78 RBI.
