CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds recalled former Tiger Brandon Larson from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, just as the slugger was preparing to take part in the league’s All-Star game.

Larson began the season with the Reds, but slumped and was sent down to Louisville on April 19. In 63 games with Louisville, he hit .324 with 17 home runs and 65 RBIs.

He filled the roster spot of infielder Ray Olmedo, who was optioned to Double-A Chattanooga on Sunday.

Larson helped to lead the Tigers to the 1997 College World Series championship by recording LSU school-records of 40 home runs with 118 RBI. In his only season at LSU, the junior college transfer batted .381, with a school-record 110 hits in 69 games. He was named the SEC’s Player of the Year.

The First-Team All-American and 1997 College World Series Most Outstanding Player was the first-round draft pick of the Reds, the 14th overall pick.
