CAPE COD, Mass. — LSU outfielder Jon Zeringue was named the Cape Cod League’s Coca Cola Player of the Week after batting .368 with a 1.000 slugging percentage, it was announced by the league on Monday.
Zeringue, who will be a junior in 2004, is one of five Tigers taking part in the prestigious summer baseball league.
He plays for the Orleans Cardinals, who have a 13-13 record and stand in a three-way tie for third place in the Eastern Division through Tuesday’s play, 2 1/2 games behind Yarmouth-Dennis (16-11).
In second full week in the league (July 7-14), Zeringue was 7-of-19 at the plate with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI and seven runs scored. After arriving late to the league due to the Tigers’ College World Series appearance, Zeringue has batted .306 (19-62) in 16 games with four doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI.
