LAKE CHARLES, La. — The LSU Sports Information Department captured three first place awards in five divisions of the SID contests announced Thursday night at the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s annual convention.
LSU SID Michael Bonnette won first place honors for the 2002 LSU Football Guide in Division I Media Guides and first place for his LSU football fact sheet in Division I Fact Sheet (Division I is football, men’s basketball and baseball).
The other LSU first place came in the release category when Kent Lowe won for his LSU basketball game story “Tigers in the Midst of Challenging SEC Stretch.”
LSU won second place in the Division I media guide category with Bill Franques being honored for his baseball annual, while LSU was second and third in Division II media guide with Brian Miller taking second for his women’s basketball guide and Melissa Reynaud third in the state for her softball guide.
Reynaud also added a second place in Division II fact sheet for her softball work.
In the two categories not won by LSU SID members, Troy Mitchell of Louisiana Monroe took first in Division II Fact Sheet for his women’s basketball work and Malcolm Butler’s Louisiana Tech women’s basketball guide was judged the best in Division II Media Guide.
