BATON ROUGE — LSU junior pitcher Kristin Schmidt was honored as a 2003 second-team All-America selection by Easton Sports on Monday.
Schmidt earned the honor as forty-five players were chosen for the 2003 Easton All-America first, second and third teams from NCAA Division I, II and III schools, NAIA schools and junior colleges.
The honor marks the first Easton All-American honor of Schmidt’s career. The two-time NFCA All-American was the SEC Pitcher of the Week on March 10 and a four-time Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
Proving to be one of the most durable pitchers in LSU history in 2003, she set school records this season for most appearances (53), games started (45), complete games (39) and innings pitched (306.1). With a 34-15 records, the Houston native ranked second in single-season victories in school history and is one of just two pitchers to record 30 wins in a season.
She threw three complete-game no-hitters this season and combined to throw a fourth against Cal Poly as part of her 15 complete-game shutouts. Against Ole Miss, she recorded a career-high 17 strikeouts, tying her for the second-most in LSU history, on her way to 345 K’s on the year.
