BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lady Tigers basketball team announced that Hanna Biernacka from Stockholm, Sweden, signed scholarship papers to play for head coach Sue Gunter and the program beginning in 2003-04.

Biernacka, a 6-1 forward, is participating with the Swedish National Team this summer and will enroll at LSU in the fall as a freshman. She averaged 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists last season with her club team Telge Emergi on her way to being named first-team all-league.

“We are very fortunate to gain a player like Hanna,” Gunter said. “Her skills and versatility will allow her to play both in the post and on the perimeter in our system. Hanna is also a very intelligent player and her experience and the great coaching she has received has well prepared her to compete at a very high level. She will be an outstanding addition to our team.”

Biernacka, the fourth signee for LSU this year, adds to a solid incoming 2003-04 freshman class that was already recognized among the nation’s best.

She also joins a solid group of returning players led by All-Americans Seimone Augustus and Temeka Johnson that posted a 30-4 record last season, won the Southeastern Conference Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Biernacka, who chose the Lady Tigers over Miami, Boston College, Mississippi State and South Carolina.
