MCKINNEY, Texas — LSU senior men’s golfer John Humphries missed out on qualifying for the 2003 U.S. Open by just one stroke in sectional qualifying on Monday at Stonebridge Ranch’s Dye Course in McKinney, Texas.

Humphries, who was named a 2003 Honorable Mention All-American selection this past weekend, shot an even-par 144 Monday. He shot a 1-under par 71 in round one and followed that with a 1-over par 73 in the second round. Six positions for the U.S. Open were claimed Monday, with two golfers getting spots and four alternates also qualifying.

Humphries was also named the Player of the Year on the 2003 LSWA All-Louisiana Golf Team and was a First Team All-SEC selection.
