BATON ROUGE — Three baseball prospects, including two Louisiana natives, have signed national letters-of-intent with LSU.
The signees include right-handed pitcher Michael Bonura of St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace, La.; infielder Derek Hebert of El Camino (Calif.) College; and shortstop/right-handed pitcher Kody Bumpous of Olive Branch (Miss.) High School.
The signees are scheduled to enroll at LSU this fall.
Bonura is an honor roll student at St. Charles Catholic, where he has earned four letters each in baseball and basketball. Through the mid-way point of the 2003 baseball season, the 6-2, 180-pound pitcher had posted a 1.02 ERA with 61 strikeouts in 48 innings.
Hebert, a native of New Iberia, La., who played at Catholic High (N.I.), is the second baseman at El Camino College, located in Torrance, Calif. The 5-10, 185-pound left-handed hitter is batting .385 with six homers and 69 RBI.
Bumpous, who is also an all-state punter at Olive Branch High, has posted a 5-0 mark with a 1.83 ERA this spring. The 6-2, 195-pound hurler fired a no-hitter against Grenada High in March.
