BATON ROUGE — It will officially go down in the record books that LSU’s men’s track and field program, that originally placed fourth at 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships, will be awarded the third-place team trophy it was announced Monday by the NCAA.
A letter directed to LSU Athletics Director Skip Bertman stated that, “Due to eligibility issues concerning a member institution, the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track Committee has had to adjust the final men’s team standings after the completion of the 2003 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.”
As a result of the scoring adjustments LSU will go on record as having scored a total of 25 points, instead of the 24 they had originally earned at the indoor championship meet.
