KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Despite delays due to severe weather conditions in the area the LSU track and field team began competition at the SEC Outdoor Championships Thursday at UT’s Tom Black Track.
The meet commenced with first-day action in the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon competitions. Lone LSU competitor, Megan Akre, sits in ninth place with 2,807 points after the completion of four events of the heptathlon. Georgia’s Hyleas Fountain leads the field with 3,550 points.
Akre, a freshman from Sugar Land, Texas, had her best showing of the day in the 200 meters where she placed sixth among the field with a time of 25.96.
Action from the SEC Championships will continue tomorrow, May 16, with the field events beginning at 10 a.m. and the running events following at 4 p.m.
