BATON ROUGE — LSU sprinter Kelly Willie was named the SEC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Willie, a freshman from Houston, Texas, ran the fifth fastest time in the country in the in the 200 meters Saturday at the Tiger Twilight Classic. He won the event with an impressive time of 20.61, a mark that ranks 10th all-time in the LSU record books.
Willie is LSU’s third athlete to be honored by the SEC this year, as Lady Tigers Muna Lee and Lolo Jones were also recognized by the conference office earlier this season.
The LSU track and field team will return to action next weekend when it travels to Knoxville, Tenn., for the SEC Championships, May 15-18.
