BATON ROUGE — Former LSU track standout Derrick Brew ran the world’s fastest time in the 400 meters this season to upset favored competition and win gold at the Grand Prix Banamex in Mexico City over the weekend.
Brew, a four-time All-American while competing for the Tigers, turned in a blistering mark of 44.83 to defeat world champion Avard Moncur and the United States’ Cory Nelson who followed with identical times of 45.00.
In other international action, former LSU national champions Leuroy Colquhoun and LeVar Anderson had impressive showings at the Grande Premio de Brasil de Athletismo in Belem, Brazil, on Sunday.
Colquhoun finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.53 and Anderson earned a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 52-0 1/4.
