Thirty-Two Track & Field Athletes on SEC Honor Roll

BATON ROUGE — Champions on the track as well as in the classroom, the LSU men’s and women’s track team had a combined 32 student-athletes named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, it was announced Wednesday by conference commissioner Mike Slive.

The Tigers led all men’s track programs with a league-high 15 student-athletes on the academic roster, while the Lady Tigers placed 17 on the conference list, a total that ranks fourth among conference schools.

The 2003 SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2001-02 academic calendar and requires that athletes be of sophomore standing academically, maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and have completed 24 semester hours toward their degree.

Honorees on the men’s team include current team members Nick Accardo, Ben Broussard, Gabriel Caraway, Brandon Conine, Jeffrey Fisher, Ryan Gallup, Kenny Henry, Chris Jackson, Jason Laine, Ben Shumaker, Peter Simon and Jimmy Wiggins, as well as Jason Carroll, Lueroy Colquhoun and Brent Martin who have either since graduated or completed their athletic careers at LSU.

Current student-athletes honored off the Lady Tiger track team include Sarah Bailey, Jessica Biggerstaff, Katrina Flanders, Ashley Gardner, Candice Gonzalez, Shamekia Louis, Kellee Monet Rice, Tiffany Robinson, Maria Romero and Althea Thomas. Lady Tiger student-athletes who have either graduated or completed their athletic careers at LSU that were also recognized include Lindsay Daigle, Jemia Ellis, Neely Falgout, Margaret Reaves, Bianca Rockett, Megan Szmajda and Catherine Cannon.
