Brown Recovering Well From Stroke

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Longtime LSU men’s basketball coach Dale Brown is recovering well from a stroke, and is able to walk and speak, former LSU athletics director Joe Dean told the Associate Press.

Brown, who suffered the stroke April 24, was moved from the intensive care unit to a private room at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, said Dean, who shares an office with Brown. Doctors want him to stay for a while as a precaution, Dean said.

“He’s antsy,” Dean said. “He’s so much better. He’s walking around, talking fine. He seems like his old self.”

Brown, 67, retired in 1997, after 25 years as LSU’s head coach. He led LSU to NCAA Final Four appearances in 1981 and 1986, four Southeastern Conference regular season titles and the 1980 SEC tournament championship.

Brown spends much of his time now speaking to groups and traveling.
