BATON ROUGE — Former LSU men’s basketball coach Dale Brown suffered a stroke Thursday but was resting comfortably at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
LSU Associate Athletic Director David “Bo” Bahnsen, a team manager under Brown in the early 1980s, said Brown had made plans to eat at T.J. Ribs at lunch Thursday but raised concerns among workers at the restaurant when he didn’t show up. Brown has an office adjacent to the restaurant on Acadian Thruway.
Brown, 67, retired in 1997 after 25 years as LSU’s coach.
He compiled a career record of 448-301, winning more games than any other LSU coach and ranking second in wins in Southeastern Conference history behind Kentucky’s Adolph Rupp.
A four-time SEC coach of the year and the 1981 national coach of the year, Brown led LSU to NCAA Final Four appearances in 1981 and 1986, four SEC regular season titles and the 1980 SEC Tournament championship.
