BATON ROUGE — The 19th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team bolstered its 2003-04 roster on Wednesday as the Tigers received a national letter of intent from highly touted New Orleans native Danny Bryan.
“Danny is a tremendous tennis player and he will definitely be an asset for this team in the future,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “He is a big guy. He’s been playing in tournaments since he was five years old and he is equally talented in both singles and doubles play. He’s the best player in the state of Louisiana and we’re glad to have him as a part of our program for the next four seasons.”
Bryan, who finished the year as the nation’s seventh-ranked singles player in the United States Tennis Association’s Boys 16 rankings, has earned back-to-back Louisiana state 5A high school championships and has garnered numerous state titles prior to entering high school. The 6-4 senior is also the ninth-ranked doubles player in the country and earned the doubles title at the prestigious Curacao International Tennis Federation event.
In singles play, Bryan has been ranked among the top-10 players in the nation since he was in the 12-year-old age grouping. He has earned Louisiana state singles championships in the 12’s, 14’s 16’s and 18-year-old age divisions.
