Lady Tigers Picked to Finish Second in SEC

Augustus Earns Second National Freshman of the Year Honor

BATON ROUGE — Seimone Augustus, a 6-1 guard/forward for LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, earned her second national Freshman of the Year honor of the postseason when Gballmag.com tabbed the Baton Rouge native with the honor.

Augustus scored in double figures in 28 games, including hitting for 20 or more points in nine games on her way to averaging a team-best 14.8 points per game. She grabbed 5.5 rebounds per game as well, including pulling down 19 boards against Georgia in February. Augustus connected 54.9 percent of her field goals and hit a school record 88.8 percent of her free throws.

In addition to this honor by Gballmag.com, Augustus was also named the United States Basketball Writers Association National Freshman of the Year and the Southeastern Conference and Louisiana Freshman of the Year.

LSU, led by Augustus, posted one of its best seasons in school history, winning 30 games and the SEC Tournament, as well as advancing to the Elite Eight for the third time. The Lady Tigers also averaged 4,457 in attendance at the Maravich Assembly Center, 19th best in the nation.
