Results From LSU Alumni Gold Track & Field Meet

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Muna Lee and Megan Akre highlighted the final day of competition at the LSU Alumni Gold track meet on Saturday as the Lady Tiger athletes turned in first-place performances at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

“We had a good meet this weekend,” said LSU head coach Pat Henry. “It was good weather. It was good competition and we had some good things happen. I think that great competition allows for great things to happen and we had a good atmosphere this weekend. The quartermilers ran well. We had some personal bests in the throws, so I think we had a number of things that were good today.”

Lee, who was named the National Track Athlete of the Week on Friday, finished first in the 200-meter dash by posting a time of 22.74 in the event. Lee’s time was the ninth-fastest in LSU women’s track and field history. The Lady Tigers’ Stephanie Durst and Monique Hall recorded second and third-place finishes in the 200-meter event, respectively.

In the heptathlon competition, LSU’s Akre ran away with the first-place finish by posting a total score of 4480 in the event. The Lady Tigers’ freshman from Sugar Land, Texas, outscored the nearest competitor by a total of 360 points. Denise Quezaire placed second in the event with a score of 4080.

“Across the board, we had some people do some good things,” Henry said. “We had some personal bests in the discuss and we had one of our quartermilers run a 51.40 right now, when a 51.50 is outstanding. We also had some consistency out of some people and that’s what we have to have as the season wears on.”

Matt Vincent, the Tigers’ sophomore from Sulphur, turned in a second-place performance in the discus throw. By hurling a mark of 51.20, Vincent finished behind only Derek Randall of Houston.

LSU’s Lolo Jones earned a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash on Saturday. In the event, the Lady Tigers’ five-time All-American registered a time of 11.53. Prudence Reid of Southern Miss finished second in the event with a time of 11.97.

The LSU men’s and women’s track teams will next be in action on Friday, April 18, as the teams travel to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays.
